Graduation ceremonies are very important in Africa, whatever the age or course. On Saturday 16 November at the New Hope pre-school in Chimoio, Mozambique, about 20 children received their graduation certificates. They are now 5 years old and will be moving up to primary school next year.
Wanderley & Rosaria da Silva opened the pre-school in February 2018. It is situated on the Baruk (Blessings) Centre. Rosaria works as a teacher there, along with her Brazilian friend Tania Buffi and other helpers. The children had a wonderful party and closing ceremony, held in the main hall of the Centre. They wore smart blue and orange gowns and caps and the hall was beautifully decorated. The theme was God’s wonderful creation – He is like an artist – ‘the Painter of our story’. Everything went well with the children’s presentations and songs. There were refreshments afterwards and, of course, a special graduation cake.
‘What motivates us to continue this work,’ Wanderley said, ‘is to hear the parents say how their children have changed and become new people.’ There is a huge demand for the pre-school in the local community and next year they plan to teach 80 children – double the previous number. We pray that God will help them with this great challenge and that New Hope will continue to live up to its name, bringing even more blessing to this needy community.
