“I was hungry and you gave me something to eat” … (Matthew 25:35)

Back in September, Wanderley & Rosaria da Silva, CAM’s missionaries in Mozambique, identified 18 needy elderly people in Chimoio whom they could help with monthly ‘baskets’ of food and basic essentials. These people, who are blind or disabled, had started begging on the streets because of the ongoing lockdown and economic crisis. This was making them even more vulnerable and increasing their risk of catching the virus. Now, with the regular food parcels, they can stay home and keep safe. Right now, the da Silvas and their team are preparing to shop for another load of supplies, ready for the third monthly distribution.

Food is not the only aid given. Two disabled people have recently been helped with wheelchairs. There are also plans to build houses for two individuals who are homeless. The city mayor has already given a plot of land for this purpose. The da Silvas are dealing with the legal documents so that the construction work can begin soon.

The King will reply, “I tell you the truth. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me”’ (Matthew 25:40)
